Australia Reshuffle Women’s Home Summer as Champions Trophy Forces Schedule Changes

Big shakeup to Women’s international schedule by Cricket Australia following ICC decision about delay in first Women’s Champions Trophy till February 2027. Australia’s scheduled home series against New Zealand and Bangladesh has been shuffled by the revised calendar.

Originally, Australia were due to host white-ball series against New Zealand in late-February and March. But, following the change of dates of the Women’s Champions Trophy to Sri Lanka from February 14-28, Cricket Australia has had to modify its plans. This would result in New Zealand travelling to Australia twice in a single season for 2026–27, instead of once.

Currently, New Zealand is in a bilateral white ball series against England and the amended schedule will see New Zealand play a three-match T20I series in October 2026, which was down-pyramid from the two T20Is which were originally lined up with Bangladesh. The three-match ODI series that will follow in March 2027 was originally part of the T20I leg, but the White Ferns will return then for it.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will still tour Australia in October but have received a shortened visit. Instead, the schedule has now been adjusted to a three-match ODI series only with T20I matches planned removed. It allows Australia’s players a clearer pathway into the Champions Trophy with an already-congested international calendar.

The changes to the schedules point to the difficulties cricket boards now face in balancing international fixtures, an ever-expanding list of global tournaments and domestic franchise leagues. The Women Champions Trophy is a new ICC Event that has been a significant addition to the women’s cricket calendar, immediately affecting current arrangements in the Future Tours Programme.

While the changes are significant, Australia still has a packed home summer to look forward to with series against New Zealand and Bangladesh. The revised schedule allows the current world champions to be suitably prepared for yet another ICC tournament, while safeguarding precious bilateral cricket between all concerned teams.
